v0.3

This game is being released in my version of early access. It's complete and playable now. I plan to refine it in future, and every time I make a significant update I'm going to put the price up. (Or maybe I'll forget about it entirely and it'll be sitting like this forever. The future is an alien and unknowable place.)

About

This city is a Möbius strip, floating through the void. It’s the nexus of all the ‘verse, where eternal planes and infinite primes meet. It’s a twisted ribbon of a free city, where monsters come to scheme and gods come to die. We call it Sig: The City Between.

Folk know Sig as a nexus of trade, an ever-shifting melting pot – but there’s more to here than that. No-one says it out loud, but Sig is also the city of love. For in this place of all places, where anything and everything might be found, those who seek might find anyone. No matter how selective your needs, how rarefied your desires, here among the teeming throngs which draw from every species and culture known to mind or magic is the perfect match for any heart.

The One is a solo roleplaying game (of the 'guided creative writing exercise' type) about relationships between your player character and some selection of the fifty-two non-player characters provided at the end of the pdf.

I don't usually have the attention span for writing, but from the bundle of solo RPGs I bought this one caught my eye and I was surprised to find myself plotting whole tangles of story arcs for these characters. The love interest options were creative--I really vibed with the eldritch horror types--and there was plenty of room for diverse scenarios thanks to the game's inclusive nature and fantastical setting.

I admit to tweaking the rules to allow for things like getting back together with exes (unless I missed a rule relating to that) and relationships shifting from romantic to other forms such as companionate/aromantic. In the end, my character ended up in the latter situation with three others after resolving a tense conflict involving eldritch cults, which I found to be a satisfying and heartwarming conclusion after a string of poor dice rolls :D Many thanks for this game! Helped me relax after stressful days and got me in a rare writing mood.

Thank you for your kind words. And on Twitter as well!

I only recently started playing this game, but I'm really enjoying it so far! Writing about the characters and my interpretations of them, as well as their relationship with my own character, has been so much fun and has really gotten me out of my writers' block!

I'll be honest, I'm one of those who bend the rules so my relationships either last a bit longer or don't always end disastrously, but it's still been a great experience to watch everything unfold and fill in the gaps in between. I know you said the game technically isn't finished yet, but I just wanted to say that I've still been having a lot of fun with it thus far and I'm glad to have bought it. Thank you for such a great game!

I had a lot of fun playing through this! I messed up though because I got sad that my favorite relationship ended up a disaster (with Saeyun!) so I did everything to make it work and skipped way to the end. Thank you for such a great game :)

Also, the page numbers all still say "xx" instead of numbers so just something to tweak for next version c:

I'm glad you enjoyed it! And it's fine to bend the rules a bit to make things come out the way you want -- I do that all the time when I play solo RPGs so I'm not going to start acting like it's forbidden or something.  =P

And thanks for pointing out the xx's. Technically The One isn't finished yet, so I haven't done my usual final checks, but I don't think the rules text is going to change much now.

Any thoughts about further development of this game?

It's about as good as it's going to get for a while, I think. At some point in the future I need to polish up the card designs, maybe make them printable, but for the foreseeable future it's going to be this.

Thanks, good to know!
